NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Five Bison competed through the first two days of the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Yale in New Haven, Conn., but none finished in a scoring top-eight as Bucknell still looks to enter the scoreboard on either the men's or women's side. Despite not making the top eight, Katie Pfeifer ran the sixth-best 10K in Bucknell history while finishing ninth.
Pfiefer's 36:24.97 put her one spot out of the points, which she missed by three-fourths of a second. The junior moved up one place from seventh on Bucknell's all-time list in the event.
The only other women's competitor wearing Bucknell orange through the first two days was Marjorie Grap, whose 136' discus toss landed her 18th in the event.
Greg Costello ran the 5K for the Bucknell men, finishing 12th in 14:32.88, while Dan Lounsbury also finished just out of the points with a ninth-place 10K of 30:29.20. Mike Mellas finished his decathlon competition on Friday, ending up in 10th with 6,353 points.
Competition will continue Saturday and Sunday, with several more Bison on the card. Saturday will begin with Maria Garcia putting her five-meet streak of breaking the school record five times in a row on the line in the hammer throw, joined by Grap, Laura Schaffer, Angie McFarland and Erin Lee. Also Saturday, Bucknell's 4x100 team of Amy Calvo, Sarah VandenBroek, Rehana Lanewala and Tolu Fayanjuola will run that relay's trials, Melanie Buczko and Angie Hall will pole vault, and Fayanjuola will run the 100-meter trials and perform in the long jump.
On the men's side, Noel Powell will run the preliminary rounds of the 100 and 200 races with Ryan Newberger joining in the longer sprint, Bucknell's 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams will run trials, and Powell will perform in the long jump. The shorter relay team includes Powell, Newberger, Justin Crane and Nick Novotny, while the longer relay squad is comprised of Aaron Hanlon, Kevin Walsh, Koran Evans and Tom Prochilo.
