Chelsea Mills' Three-Set Win Keeps Bucknell Women's Tennis in Postseason Race

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team needed Chelsea Mills' three-set win to claim a 4-3 victory over league rival Lehigh and keep the team's hopes of playing in the Patriot League Tournament alive. Fortunately for the Bison, the sophomore came through with a 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-4 victory at sixth singles over Starrine Foster to clinch the match.
The Bison (13-2, 2-2 PL) claimed the doubles point to start the afternoon. Mills and Nadezda Curcic won 8-6 at second singles over Foster and Gwen Dwyer, while Veronica Brown and Samantha Berthod defeated Maria Anorga and Lindsay Long at third, also 8-6. Rheanna Gaskin and Tanya Sichko lost to Lehigh's Kristen Nowicki and Rachel Samson, 8-4 at first doubles.
Bucknell's highest singles win was at third, where Curcic beat Dwyer, 6-1, 6-3. Sichko defeated Anorga in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth, while Mills won five of the last six third-set points contested to claim her singles win. Lehigh (12-3, 2-1 PL) won on court one, where Nowicki defeated Gaskin, 6-2, 6-0, and on two, where Samson beat Brown, 6-4, 6-2, as well as at fifth, where Long defeated Berthod, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
Thursday is an off day for the Bison women, but Friday brings the Pittsburgh Panthers to Lewisburg for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. before Army visits on Saturday at 9 a.m.
