LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Jaime Hays (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair H.S.), a junior captain of the women's golf team, was named to the Big South All-Academic Team this week as Hays and the Bison compete in their second championship tournament in the conference.
Hays is an accounting major with a minor in religion and a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average. A member of the Bucknell Dean's List and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Hays received the Joan of Arc Service Award for completing over 150 hours of community service and volunteer work. She has served as a Sunday school teacher and was one of 20 students chosen for the highly selective Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management, an intensive six-week summer program focusing on elements of management and technology in a global community.
On the golf course, Hays has been one of Bucknell's top players in addition to serving as team captain. Entering the Big South Championship she had a stroke average of 83.6, including the fall and spring seasons. She tied for sixth place at the Bucknell Spring Invitational two weeks ago, leading the Bison to a second-place team finish. Hays, who has shot 80-92 in the first two rounds of the Big South tourney, set Bucknell's 18-hole record with a 74 at the 2002 Yale Invitational.
Entering Wednesday's final round, Bucknell is in sixth place at the Big South Championship.
Radford's Laura Terebey repeated as the Big South's Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Joining Hays on the All-Academic Team are Birmingham-Southern's Sarah Hollowell, Charleston Southern's Julie St. Onge, Coastal Carolina's Natalie Cruse, High Point's Anni Svensson, Holy Cross' Elizabeth Norden, Terebey, UNC Wilmington's Becky Berzonski and Winthrop's Shannon Hopkins.
