Maria Garcia Named Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior thrower Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week for her 53'11 ?" school record-breaking toss by 11 ?" at the Bison Open and Pentathlon last Saturday. With the throw, she qualified for ECAC competition, surpassing the standard by just over a foot.
Garcia's best-ever toss was the second school record broken this year in track and field, following Melanie Buczko topping the women's pole vault mark three times already this season.
Garcia will have a homecoming of sorts when the Providence, R.I. native and the rest of the Bison visit the University of Rhode Island campus in Kingston, R.I. for its invitational this Saturday. From there, Bucknell will host its Winter Classic on Feb. 14 and the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 20-22.
The Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Bucknell Office of Athletic Communications each week from among Bucknell performances across all sports over the previous week.
