LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell swimmers and divers tested their times against Army, Colgate, and Lafayette in the Bison Invitational less than two weeks before all eight Patriot League schools converge on Annapolis, Md. for the Patriot League Championships.
The non-team scoring meet got off to an excellent start for Bucknell, as Rebecca Scheffter, Mary Krakowski, Laura Goeller, and Meghan Freese recorded the sixth-best time in Bucknell history in the 200 free relay, finishing the race in 1:38.32. The men also won their race, as Jake Thieman, Ian Rawhauser, Michael Willats, and Peter Garvin finished their relay in 1:25.32.
Several Bucknell athletes recorded their first career wins of any kind at Bucknell. Freshman Alex List narrowly missed out on Bucknell's top 10 list in the 500 free, finishing the race in 5:09.87, well ahead of Army's Sarah Turner, who finished in 5:22.52. Two women's events later, senior Jill Nonemaker won her 100 breast race in 1:09.74. Freshman Katherine Munson won the next women's event, the 200 fly, in 2:13.96. Senior Andrea Kern won the 400 IM win 4:42.55. Sophomore Will Patterson claimed the 50 free in 22.30.
Bucknell's female divers combined to take both the one-meter and three-meter competitions. Sarah Petcavage ended the meet's opening session with a one-meter diving win, racking up 214.80 points. Victoria Fritz, who finished third in the event, recorded the fourth-best point total for six optional dives in Bucknell history, totaling 198.60. In the three-meter competition, Lisa Rockwell had the second-most points in Bucknell history for 11 dives, totaling 388.70 points, just ahead of record holder Petcavage's 383.45.
The meet was the last home competition of the 2003-04 season for Bucknell, but the Bison will be back in the pool Feb. 26-28 at Navy's Lejeune Hall for the Patriot League Championships.
