BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green placed four players in double figures with Liz Honnegger leading the way with a game-high 19 points as the Bucknell women's basketball team fell to the Falcons, 80-60, Thursday night at Anderson Arena. It was just the second loss in the last five games for Bucknell.
Bowling Green (7-4) opened up an 18-point lead early in the first half when it held Bucknell (4-7) without a field goal for more than eight minutes as the Falcons went on a 19-2 run to take a 25-7 lead. Lillian Drumgold, who had five points, canned a short jumper from the left side to end the Bison drought.
Bowling Green extended the lead to 34-13 for its largest advantage of the half. However, Bucknell had a run of its own as it held the Falcons scoreless for more than three minutes to close within 14 points at 35-21 after a 6-0 run keyed by four points from Lindsey Hollobaugh. Hollobaugh paced Bucknell with 15 points. It was the seventh time this season she has been the team's high scorer.
Over the final 2:42 of the first half, the Bison were outscored 6-3 as the Falcons took a 41-24 lead into the locker room. The 17-point halftime deficit was the second largest for Bucknell this season.
In the second half, Bowling Green jumped out to a 26-point lead (54-28) by outscoring the Bison 13-4 over the first four minutes of the half. The Falcons extended their lead to 31 points on three separate occasions with the final time coming at 74-43 with 4:52 remaining in the game.
Bucknell proceeded to go on a 17-6 run to end the game as nine different players contributed points during the five-minute span.
Kristina Collymore was the only other Bison in double figures as she equaled her career high with 12 points behind a pair of three-pointers. It was the second consecutive game she made two field goals from behind the arc.
Bowling Green and Bucknell combined to commit 49 fouls despite the Falcons holding a double-digit lead most of the game. The Bison converted 20 of 28 (71.4 percent) from the line, while Bowling Green made 21 of 29 (72.4 percent). Hollobaugh and Collymore each made 4 of 4 to pace Bucknell.
For the first time in four games the Bison did not win the rebounding battle as they grabbed just 34 rebounds. Bowling Green hauled in 47, including 20 on the offensive end. Rachel Hanley led Bucknell with five rebounds, while Honegger paced the Falcons with 10.
Bucknell, which fell to 2-1 versus Mid-American Conference schools this year, will return home Monday, Jan. 3, to host Iona at 7 p.m. Thursday's game against Bowling Green was the final non-conference road game for Bucknell.
