Bison Swimming and Diving Teams Host Bucknell Sprint Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams officially opened the season Saturday, hosting the Bucknell Sprint Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania fielded squads in the non-scored competition as well Patriot League foes American and Lafayette.
Junior Lauren Reed was the lone Bison woman to take top honors in two individual swimming events, winning both the 50 and 100 yard butterfly events. Reed won the 50 in 27.16 and the 100 in 59.57. In the 100, teammates Mary Krakowski and Katherine Munson followed in second and third places in 59.61 and 1:00.98, respectively.
Freshman diver Erika Mannix was also a double-winner for the Bison taking both the one and three meter diving events. Mannix posted scores of 234.70 in the one-meter and 229.00 in the three-meter. Senior Adam Freeman won both diving events on the men's side with scores of 278.80 in the one-meter and 261.40 in the three-meter.
After Reed and Mannix, the Bison had three event winners on the women's side. Rebecca Scheffter took away top honors in the 100 free with a time of 53.53. In the 100 breaststroke, Jamie Flick came away with the win in 1:07.70. Alison Faux was another event winner for the Bison taking the 50 free in 25.23 with Scheffter right behind in second place in 25.28.
Lectie Altman and Faux went 2-3 in the 100 backstroke with times of 59.41 and 1:01.44, respectively. The duo of Altman and Faux finished 2-3, once again, in the 50 backstroke with times of 28.27 and 28.56.
In the 400 medley relay, Bucknell dominated taking first, third and fourth places. The team of Altman, Reed, Scheffter and Emily Wichryk placed first in a time of 4:00.73. Also in the relays, the team of Altman, Flick, Krakowski and Scheffter came away with the win in the 200 medley relay in 1:49.52.
On the men's side, the Bison came up with three second place finishes in relay events. The team of Jake Thieman, Brad Bennett, Todd Bauer and John Peterman took second in the 200 free relay in 1:26.39. The squad of Ian Rawhauser, William Schilling, Mark Kretzer and Thieman also finished as the runner up in the 200 medley relay in 1:39.21. In the 400 medley relay, Rawhauser, John Hoffman, Bennett and Peterman earned another second place finish in 3:13.48.
Individually, Peterman notched the highest finish on the day finishing second in the 50 free in 21.96, just in front of Rawhauser in third in 22.08. Bennett also swam to a third place finish in the 50 breaststroke in 28.14, while Peterman placed third in the 100 free in 48.49.
Next up for the Bison swimmers and divers is a trip to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy and UNC Wilmington on Nov. 13, beginning at 12 p.m.
