Bucknell Women's Basketball Falls to Florida International, 61-44

MIAMI, Fla. - In its first game of the season, the Bucknell women's basketball team turned the ball over 13 times in the first half, including four times in the first three minutes, as Florida International built a 9-0 lead en route to a 61-44 win Friday night in the second game of the Traveler's Tournament at Pharmed Arena.
The Bison will play Texas A&M, which lost to South Florida 62-56, in the consolation game of the tournament Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
After the 13 first-half miscues, Bucknell turned the ball over just seven times in the second half as it finished with 20 for the game. The Bison defense forced 17 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Lindsey Hollobaugh extended her streak to seven consecutive games of scoring at least 10 points as she tallied a game-high 16 points, including eight in the final 4 minutes, 31 seconds of play. The Bison trailed by their largest deficit of 28 points at 56-28 with 6:28 remaining, but outscored the Golden Panthers 16-5 down the stretch. In the second half, Bucknell held a 26-24 advantage over host FIU.
Freshman Kristina Collymore joined Hollobaugh in double figures as she netted 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting. She was also 2 of 2 from the free throw line. For the game, Bucknell, which shot 71.6 percent from the foul line last year, connected on 14 of 15 (93.3 percent) as Hollobaugh led the way with a perfect 8 of 8.
A taller Golden Panther team limited the Bison to just 15 of 50 (30.0 percent) shooting from the field. FIU connected on 15 of 29 (51.7 percent) in building a 37-18 halftime lead and finished the contest at 24 of 52 (46.2 percent).
Despite facing a height deficit at almost every position Bucknell held a 35-34 advantage in rebounding. Rachel Hanley had a team-high eight boards, while Hope Foster added seven. Of the 35 caroms, 12 were of the offensive variety.
Milena Tomova led FIU with 15 points and nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Lasma Jekabsone added nine rebounds as well.
Bucknell will face Texas A&M Saturday evening at 5 p.m. for third place in the Traveler's Tournament.
