LEWISBURG, Pa. - Former Bucknell women's basketball star Molly Creamer '03 has signed to play with the Lubbock Hawks of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) in 2005. The five-team league kicks off its fifth season in January.
Creamer, who was the 10th overall selection in the 2003 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty, is the all-time leading scorer at Bucknell and was named both a 2003 NCAA Division I Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches All-American and an Associated Press All-American following her senior season.
A native of Mendham, N.J., Creamer is the only women's basketball player to garner Patriot League Player of the Year accolades three consecutive years. As a senior, she averaged a school and league record 27.1 points per game. At the conclusion of her storied career, Creamer owned 22 school records and 13 Patriot League standards, including the career scoring record of 2,462 points for a career average of 21.0 points per game.
Along with her scoring prowess, Creamer was also an unselfish player as she totaled 593 assists in her career, second on Bucknell's all-time list. Creamer led the Patriot League in scoring and assists an unprecedented three consecutive years. Her single-game high was a 14-assist performance against Lehigh as a junior.
Also as a junior, Creamer helped lead the Bison to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. During an 80-56 loss to Baylor in the first round Creamer scored a team-high 18 points.
Since graduating with a degree in history in 2003, Creamer has played professionally for the Liberty, whom she appeared in three preseason games with in 2003, and for Hapoel Petah Tikva in the Israeli League.
The 2005 campaign marks the first season in the NWBL for Lubbock. As the only professional women's basketball league in the United States during the spring, the NWBL has served as a tuneup for WNBA players as well as a stepping stone for WNBA hopefuls. The NWBL featured 27 WNBA players last year.
