LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Eric Brunton and senior Ori Adrabi each scored his second goal of the season as the Bucknell men's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 victory over Rider Tuesday afternoon at West Fields in a match that concluded a five-game homestand for the Bison.
Bucknell (3-5-1) struck early in the second half after the Broncs played the Bison to a 0-0 first half deadlock. Brunton, who climbed to third place on the team in points with five, netted his goal just 3:34 into the second half when he found the back of the net unassisted.
The score remained 1-0 for nearly 20 minutes until Adrabi sealed the victory with his tally in the 67th minute. Junior Scott Visnic started the play off by dribbling through a crowd of Rider defenders right in front of the goal before passing to freshman Corey Curnutte. Curnutte quickly redirected the pass to Adrabi who had snuck behind the defenders and fired the ball past Broncs' goaltender Daniel Riverso from point-blank range. Visnic picked up his team-high tying fourth assist of the season on the play, while Curnutte tallied his third.
After playing a sluggish first half, Bucknell head coach Brendan Nash inserted sophomore Jeremy Wong and freshman Justin Wolf into the lineup to begin the second half and his team responded, outshooting Rider 8-1 after halftime, and 11-4 for the game. The Bison also attempted four corner kicks after intermission after not recording one in the first half.
Junior Adam Edwards and freshman Joey Kuterbach split time in goal as they shared the first shutout of the year for Bucknell. Edwards played the first 45 minutes and made two saves, while Kuterbach came on to play the final 45 minutes and stopped one shot.
After playing their last five matches at home, the Bison open a six-game road trip Sunday afternoon at Patriot League rival Lafayette. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Bucknell will return home Oct. 30 against Navy.
