LEWISBURG, Pa. - No. 19 Penn State scored two goals in each half as the Bucknell field hockey team lost a non-league game to the Nittany Lions 4-0 in its final home contest of the season Tuesday evening at Graham Field.
The Bison saw goalie Liz Jordan stop 19 shots, her second-highest total of the season, in the losing effort as Penn State outshot Bucknell by a 33-6 margin. However, after not attempting a shot in the first half, the Bison were able to launch six shots after halftime. Jordan's 19 saves moved her into first place in the Patriot League with 153 this year.
After being held scoreless for more than 13 minutes, the Nittany Lions got on the board at the 13:37 mark when Kiersten Wood scored on a rebound. Penn State tacked on its second goal at the 25:12 mark when Michele Rigby scored the first of her two goals. Wood was credited with the assist.
The second half saw two more scores from the Nittany Lions, but Bucknell was able to play the nationally ranked squad much more evenly in that stanza. It was the first time the two teams had met in Lewisburg since the 1991 season and Penn State was the second Big Ten Conference team to make the journey to Bucknell this year. The Bison lost 3-2 to Indiana earlier this month.
The Bison will close out their 2004 campaign Saturday, Oct. 30, at Georgetown. The game is slated to begin at 12 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
