LEWISBURG, Pa. - With just under four minutes gone off the game clock, the Towson field hockey team scored their first goal and never looked back on their way to a non-league victory. Towson defeated Bucknell 4-1 on a cold, wet Tuesday evening at Graham Field.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, freshman Chyncia Smith gave the Bison a second half spark scoring a goal at the 56:42 mark, making the score 2-1 and putting the Bison within reach of a much needed win. The goal the second of Smith's career.
Towson was quick to stop the potential Bison comeback, scoring within three minutes of Smith's goal. Towson's Erica Houck put the Tigers up 3-1 at the 59:38 mark on an assist from teammate Julie Lambi. Lambi had an exceptional outing, dishing out the assist on each of the four Tiger goals.
The Tigers' first score came with just 3:42 gone by in the first period when Ashley Bacon scored the first of her two scores on the evening. Bacon's first goal was scored in a penalty corner situation with assists from Lambi and Aimee Carroll. Bacon's second goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, came at the 21:33 mark with the Lambi assist to put the Tigers up, 2-0.
Lambi got her fourth and final assist when she sent a cross pass to Carroll who put the ball past Bison goalie Liz Jordan with just two seconds remaining in the game.
Jordan made six saves in goal for the Bison while Towson's Christina Armer stopped eight shots.
The Bison take to Graham Field once again on Saturday, Oct. 23, versus Lehigh at 1 p.m. Bucknell will honor its four seniors in a pre-game presentation at 12:45 p.m.
