LORETTO, Pa. - Scott Visnic scored his team-high fifth goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Bucknell men's soccer team lost to St. Francis (Pa.) 2-1 Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Bison to 4-6-1 this season, while the Red Flash upped their record to 6-4-1 as they won their school-record fifth consecutive match.
Visnic got the Bison on the board early in the second half (53:47) as he skipped a header over the charging goalie to tie the score at 1-1. Freshman Joe Mellott was credited with the assist, his second of the season. The goal, Visnic's fifth of the year, tied him with Lafayette's Scott Hawkins for the Patriot League lead and moved him into first place in the conference in points with 15.
Following the tying goal Bucknell's defense could not hold St. Francis as the Red Flash knocked in the game-winning goal just over six minutes later.
The Bison did hold a 7-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but St. Francis outshot Bucknell 8-4 after halftime. The Red Flash also had all five of their corner kicks in the second half as they held a distinct second-half advantage in the game.
Adam Edwards went the distance in goal for Bucknell and made four saves.
The Bison return to Patriot League play Saturday afternoon, Oct. 16, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Lehigh. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
