Bucknell Men's Cross Country Places Fourth at Gulden Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's cross country team came within two points of a victory on Friday night at the Gulden Invitational as they were edged by Patriot League opponent Navy. Navy recorded a total of 60 points to Bucknell's 62. The Bison men finished fourth behind Patriot League foes Lehigh and Army and local rival Lock Haven.
Sophomore Leanna Nastase led the Bison women for the second time this season with a fifth place finish in 22:53.34 over 6,000-meters. Also recording a top-ten finish was freshman Erin Cranmer-Hart who finished tenth with a time of 23:18.13.
The tight pack of Jenny Stevens (23:29.01), Julie Jakaboski (23:34.48) and Lauren Bricker (23:41.53) rounded at the scoring for the Bison in 14th, 15th and 18th places. Jennifer Marsh (23:46.49) and Offeibia Hanson-Hall (23:54.08) also ran strong to finish in the Bison top seven finishing in 20th and 24th places, respectively.
Also placing in the top 30 competitors for the Bison were Kerryann Branker (25th, 23:55.48), Krista Sawko (28th, 24:03.16), and Kayla Halloran (29th, 24:04.27).
IUP's Mindy Sawtelle won the women's competition for the second consecutive year running a time of 22:19.81.
In the men's race, Lehigh emerged as team champions with a total score of 48 points thanks to a tight pack of runners in fifth, sixth and seventh positions. In a close race in the team standings, Army was second with 51 points, followed by Lock Haven with 58. Bucknell finished fourth with 103 points.
The first two finishers were both from Lock Haven with Ryan Blood winning the 8,000-meter race in 25:13.23 and Chris Cowan finishing second in 25:20.09.
Senior Doug Creveling was the top runner for the Bison placing 13th overall in a time of 25:59.08. Fellow Bison senior Dan Lounsbury followed in 15th place in 26:02.59.
Other Bison scorers included Matt Forys (26:16.09) in 22nd position, Travis Rivers (26:20.38) with a 25th place finish and Chris Nocera (26:24.51) in 28th place. K.C. Brown (26:41.60) and Ryan Delaney (26:41.60) also recorded top seven performances for the Bison in 36th and 37th places.
Next up for the Bison men and women will be the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa. on October 16. The Bison will then be back in Lewisburg as they host the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, October 30.
