MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Freshman forward Jennifer Margolis scored the second of her two goals on the day nearly nine minutes into overtime, leading the Bucknell women's soccer team over Robert Morris, 2-1, on Friday afternoon. The scores were the first two of Margolis' young career.
The Bison outshot the Colonials 4-2 in the opening half, but could not convert any of their scoring chances as both teams went scoreless into the break. Margolis changed that just under four minutes into the second half with her first goal on the afternoon, taking a feed from sophomore Kerry Fitz-Patrick to put BU on top 1-0.
The Bison were well on the road to victory when Robert Morris made a late charge. Bucknell goalkeeper Samantha Hecht emerged from the net to attempt to stop the advance of Robert Morris forward Christina Pilato, but committed a red-card foul. Pilato was awarded a penalty kick as a result of the infraction, and converted with 2:11 left in regulation to send the match to overtime.
With nearly nine minutes gone by in the extra session, junior Michelle Santonacita crossed a ball into the box where a waiting Margolis sent it past Robert Morris goalkeeper Shana Berardi for the game-winner.
The Orange and Blue held an 11-10 edge in shots, while receiving seven corner kicks to the Colonials' three. Before her ejection, Hecht stopped six would-be goals, and freshman Katie Dry made one save in 11 minutes of relief. Berardi registered five saves.
Bucknell (2-0) returns home to face Marist on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
