Bucknell Men's and Women's Tennis Shut Out St. Francis

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams each had a dual meet against St. Francis, and both sent the Red Flash home without a point, 7-0. The dual match was the first for the men and the second for the women, who beat St. Joseph's in Philadelphia, 6-1, on September 14.
For the men on the doubles side, Bucknell's Nick Denefrio and Matt Pikus beat Shaheed Mahomed and Brent Keough, 8-1 on court one while Joe Menezes and Asher Salam blanked St. Francis' Tyler Jones and Mike Tucci, 8-0 on court two. Gerald DiChiara teamed up with Don Whaley for the Bison to beat Mark Pell and Schuyler Sheaffer, 8-0
The women's team swept doubles as well, with Bucknell's Veronica Brown and Tanya Sichko beating Amy Croskey and Lesley Wenzel, 8-5 on court one. Chelsea Mills and Rebecca Kral beat St. Francis' Jessica Wanchalk and Mallary Palmer, 8-1. Samantha Berthod and Jill Merselis won on court three for Bucknell, 8-0.
Three Bucknell athletes moved toward personal milestones with their respective singles wins.
On the men's side, Menezes kept his perfect singles record intact with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Tucci on court four. His teammates were also all but perfect on the afternoon, with Denefrio beating Mahomed, 6-2, 6-0 on court one, Salam beating Keough, 6-2, 6-3 on court two, DiChiara besting Jones, 6-3, 6-2 on court three, Pikus beating Pell, 6-0, 6-0 on court five, and Aaron Saperstein winning 6-0, 6-0 over Sheaffer on court six.
On the women's side, senior Berthod won the 49th singles match of her career, one behind all-time record holder Kristina Lutter '94, after beating Wanchalk 6-0, 6-0 on court four. Junior Sichko is right on her heels with 48 total wins after beating Kendra Fewell 6-0, 6-0 on court three. On court one, Brown beat Croskey, 6-2, 6-0, while Rheanna Gaskin beat Wenzel, 6-1, 6-0 on court two, Mills beat Palmer, 6-0, 6-0 on court five, and Kral beat Seybold, 6-1, 6-0 on court six.
Both teams will play again on Sunday against Delaware at home at 12:30 p.m.
