U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. - Scott Visnic and Chris Beekman staked the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 2-0 lead, but Loyola Marymount came charging back to pick up a 4-3 come-from-behind victory in the second game of the 2003 Falcon Invitational. Bucknell fell to the host Air Force, 1-0, on Friday in the first game of the tournament.
Visnic scored for the fourth time in the last four games with 23:25 gone in the first half. The sophomore took a pass from junior Ori Adrabi and delivered it into the back of the net from 15 yards out.
A little over 11 minutes later, Beekman tallied his second of the season when he finished Jonathan Hemmert's shot past Loyola Marymount goalkeeper Shaun Kalnasy for the 2-0 lead.
The Lions cut it to a one-goal deficit by halftime when Joseph Stoakley followed Armando Melendez's shot into the net with less than five minutes to go until the break.
Loyola Marymount came out in the second half and scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead with nearly 22 minutes remaining in the contest. Sophomore Eric Brunton got the Bison back within one with his first score of the season at the 79:00 mark, taking a pass from Mark Mascarenhas and Visnic.
Time eventually ran out, however, and the Lions held on for the 4-3 victory.
Bucknell dominated the statistics, despite the loss. The Orange and Blue held a 21-15 shot advantage, and led 7-2 in corner kicks. Bison goalkeeper Adam Edwards ended the game with six saves. Kalnasky made nine stops for Loyola Marymount.
Beekman and senior co-captain Brian King were both named to the All-Tournament team for their play this weekend.
BU is 3-4-0 overall. The Bison travel to Army on Friday, September 26, for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Black Knights. It is the Patriot League opener for Bucknell. Loyola Marymount is 5-2-1 overall.
