Bucknell Men's Tennis Competes at ECAC Championships

Mercer County, N.J. - The Bucknell men's tennis team competed today at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Mercer County, N.J., with four singles players competing on the first day in addition to a doubles team. Competition continues tomorrow.
Due to the formation of the bracket, Nick Denefrio, Asher Salam, and Gerald DiChiara received passes to the second round, while Joe Menezes won his way there with a blanking of Moravian's Nick Schuett, 6-0, 6-0.
In the second round, Denefrio fell to Christiano Borrelli of Concordia, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Salam beat Gary Wnek of St. Joseph's, 6-1, 6-3, while DiChiara beat John Zazzu of Lafayette, 4-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), and Menezes beat Rich Pimenthal of St. Peter's, 6-0, 6-1.
Denefrio moved on to the back draw, where he moved on past Francisco Velazquez of St. Joseph's, as Velazquez suffered an injury and was forced to retire the match.
Bucknell's lone doubles team split two matches on the first day of competition, as Matt Pikus and Aaron Saperstein fell to Fairfield's Paul Goldbeck and Michael Theile, 7-5, 6-4, and followed it up with an 8-2 pro-set victory over Bill Mariano and Mike Sophia of Cabrini.
