NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Bucknell sophomore Scott Visnic one-timed the ball into the Niagara net with 28:47 gone in the game, and that score held up as the men's soccer team defeated the Purple Eagles 1-0 on Saturday, September 13. The victory is the second-straight shutout for the Bison, and evens the team's season record at 2-2.
Senior Mark Mascarenhas got the play started when he stole the ball from Niagara and played it to sophomore Eric Brunton up the field. Brunton then sent a cross to Visnic, who one-touched it into the back of the net for his first score of the season.
The Orange and Blue offense took it to Niagara, holding a 17-13 advantage in shots. Visnic, who took a game-high five shots, had two other near goals, but Purple Eagles' goalkeeper Dan O'Shea came up with two of his six saves to keep the host team within striking distance.
Bucknell netminder Adam Edwards, recording his 12th career shutout, stopped four Niagara shots. The sophomore needs just two more shutouts to move into the Patriot League top-10 for career shutouts.
The Bison return home to host La Salle for a 4:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, September 16.
