LEWISBURG, Pa. - Cornell scored two unanswered goals in the second half to come away with a 2-1 victory over Bucknell in college women's soccer action on Wednesday, September 10. The loss was Bucknell's first of the season.
Junior Ashley Dincher got the Bison on the board at the 58:36 mark for the 1-0 lead. Freshman Jennifer Margolis received the ball in front of Big Red goalkeeper Katie Thomas. When Margolis' shot curved around Thomas, Dincher was there to drive it into the far right corner for the score. The assist marks the third straight game Margolis has recorded a point.
Just six minutes later, Cornell responded to tie the contest. Ali Gombar served a ball from the left side of the field, and Emily Knight was on the far post to sneak it past Bison netminder Samantha Hecht with 64:25 gone in the game.
The Big Red broke the deadlock with just over seven minutes left in the contest when Kara Ishikawa sent a rainbow shot over the outstretched hands of Hecht from just outside the box. The Orange and Blue challenged in the game's waning seconds, earning a corner kick with under a minute to play, but the Cornell defense prevailed to preserve the victory.
The visitors held a 10-9 edge in shots, while both teams were even in corner kicks at four. Thomas finished the game with two saves. Hecht registered four stops.
Bucknell falls to 3-1-0 on the year. The Bison remain home to host Howard in a 4:00 p.m. game on Friday, September 12. Cornell improves to 1-1-1.
