Bucknell Track and Field Completes the 2003 Season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams completed the season at the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Princeton University this weekend. Highlighting the weekend was juniors Maria Garcia, placing fifth in the hammer throw, and Ryan Newberger, earning third in the 200-meter dash.
At the ECAC Championship, Nicki Piper, Theresa Dennis, Angela McFarland and Garcia represented the Bison. Garcia threw the hammer 174'0" for a fifth place finish. McFarland threw a distance of 149'11".
Piper completed the 800-meter run in 2:14.70(18th). Dennis competed in the 10,000-meter run and placed 16th with a time of 37:08.80.
At the IC4A Championship, the Orange and Blue was represented by Newberger, Noel Powell, Daniel Lounsbury, Bryan Johnston, Justin McKnight, Lou Palma, Eric Furst, Aaron Hanlon and Kevin Walsh.
Newberger finished third in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 21.46. He earned a personal record of 21.44 in the 200-meter preliminary race. Powell placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23'9.5". The junior placed eighth in the 200-meter dash (21.79) and ran the 100-meter preliminaries in 10.86.
Johnston placed third in his heat in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after crossing the ling at 9:14.59, while Lounsbury ran the 10k in 31:48.97. McKnight threw the javlin 185'3" on Saturday. The men's 4x800-meter relay, including Walsh, Hanlon, Furst and Palma, qualified for the finals with a time of 7:33.61.
