Bucknell Women's Track & Field Places Seventh at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Bucknell's women's track & field team received points from 10 different athletes and four relays en route to a seventh-place finish in a very strong field at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary over the weekend.
The Bison earned 67.3 points and were beaten only by Yale (131), William & Mary (110.83), Hampton (94), Boston U. (80), St. John's (78.3) and Seton Hall (78). Eighteen women's teams scored points at a meet that featured over 3,000 high school and college athletes.
Bucknell's top finisher was junior hammer thrower Maria Garcia, who earned a second-place finish in her specialty with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 165' 8". Garcia's performance highlighted an outstanding performance in the field events by the Bison.
Dionne Bonds and Laura Schaffer each scored in two events. Bonds was sixth in the triple jump (37' 1") and seventh in the long jump (18' 2 ?"), while Schaffer was sixth in both the shot put (41' 4 ?") and discus (126' 7"). Scoring seventh-place points for Bucknell was Meredith Saggers in the high jump (5' 1") and Angela McFarland in the discus (126' 2").
On the track, Bucknell's best success came in the distance relays, where the 4x1500-meter and distance medley teams both placed third. The Bison also took fourth in the 4x200-meter relay and sixth in the 4x100.
Kiley MacDonald (15.33) and Jamie Lilien (15.36) placed 6-7 in the 100-meter hurdles, while Edwina Bourn was seventh in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:04.10).
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Katie Fantauzzo ran a personal-best 12:07.92 (fifth all-time at BU) to place ninth.
Next up for Bucknell is the Bison Outdoor Classic next Friday and Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
