Bucknell Men's & Women's Track Win the 10K Distance Races On Friday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field kicked off the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic with the Distance Carnival, on Friday evening. The Distance Carnival included 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5K and 10K. The Bison swept the 10K race with first place finishes by sophomores Katherine Pfeifer and Daniel Lounsbury.
Pfeifer earned the gold after crossing the line at 38:10.64. With this mark, the sophomore now stands 10th on the all-time charts. Jamie Gow earned third place honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:45.04 and jumped from fifth on the all-time charts to third. Julie Jakaboski placed fifth with a time of 11:55.46 and now stands fifth in the record books for the steeplechase. Kelly Raffey finished 10th with a time of 12:43.63.
In the 5K, senior Theresa Dennis placed seventh with a 17:54.53 finish. Rachel Tutmaher crossed the line at 18:38.41 and Alison Cole completed the 5K in 18:45.41. Freshman Mary Heck finished at 20:40.42.
In the men's competition, Lounsbury earned first place with a time of 30:45.83 in the 10K. He set a new Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium record, beating the old record by over 16 seconds. The 10K stadium record was previously held by John Panhorst of Army, set in 1993 (31:02.85). Marcus Jones (31:52.93, 7th) and Eric Heikkila (31:56.87, 8th) also competed in the 10K. Bryan Johnston earned the silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:28.59. Ryan Delaney (9:45.04, 9th) and Dan Weaver (10:04.18, 17th) also ran the steeplechase for the Bison.
Stephen Schaefer placed fifth in the 5K with a time of 14:49.51. Douglas Creveling followed with a time of 14:52.98 for eighth place. Wesley Reinhardt finished at 15:34.02 (20th). Alexander Lash (16:31.62), Andrew Dinsmore (16:34.93) and Garfield Mathis (16:37.50) also participated in the 5K.
Day two of the Bison Outdoor Classic will continue on Saturday, April 11. The throwing events will begin at 10:30 a.m., while the running events will begin at noon.
