
Bison Track & Field Makes Strong Showing At Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field concluded the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday afternoon. A number of Bison made a strong showing in the non-scoring meet. Seven members of the Bucknell squad improved their standings on the all-time list, or made a first time showing in the record books.
On the women's side of competition, Nicki Piper, Maria Garcia and Kiley MacDonald each earned a gold medal. Piper ran the 800-meter in 2:16.07 for a first place mark. Garicia threw the hammer 173'9", a mere three feet farther than the runner-up. MacDonald earned two gold medals after running the 100-high hurdles in 14.92 and 1:04.96 in the 400-intermediate hurdles.
MacDonald was followed by teammates, Edwina Bourn (14.99, 2nd) and Jamie Lilien (15.11, 3rd) in the 100-hurdles. Jennifer Marsh finished third in the 800-meter, following Piper, with a time of 2:17.77. Amy Calvo received a silver in the 400-meter dash (58.44) and Monique Boley (58.46) grabbed third.
In the 100-meter dash, Erin Turner-Byfield placed second with a time of 13 seconds flat, while Cindy Darius placed fourth with 13.16. In the 1,500-meter race, Carolyn Mateskon (4:53.56) earned a bronze. In the field events, Laura Schaffer threw the shot-put for a distance of 40'1? for a bronze.
Three members of the women's team earned places in the record books on Saturday. Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian vaulted 10" even to improve her standings to sixth all-time. Newcomer, Brandi Trapasso leaped 5'1" in the high jump and is tied for eight on the all-time charts. Charity Brady ran the 200-meter in 25.38 and stands sixth in the record book.
The Bison men also had a successful day in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Noel Powell ran the 100-meter dash in 10.65, to improve his personal best by two hundredths of a second. He is now tied for fourth on the all-time charts. Justin Alden-Dunn vaulted 14'6" to earn a silver medal. Alden-Dunn stands tied for ninth in the record books.
In the 800-meter, Eric Furst finished with a time of 1:53.18 for third place. Furst stands eighth on the charts. Mike Mellas makes his first appearance in the record books under the 400-high hurdles with a time of 55.49. Mellas stands seventh on the all-time lists. Adam Kaufman threw the hammer 155'8" for a fourth place finish.
The Bison will host the Bucknell Quadrangular next weekend on Saturday, April 19. The meet will be held in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
