Women's Tennis Wins at Duquesne, 4-3

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Bucknell bounced back from a loss at Pittsburgh to defeat Duquesne, 4-3, in women's tennis action on Sunday, March 23. The Bison won three singles bouts and claimed the doubles point.
Sophomore Nadezda Curcic and freshman Veronica Brown got the team rolling with an 8-5 win at number one doubles over Alina Klinova and Katie Riedinger. Although Rheanna Gaskin and Tanya Sichko dropped their match at the second flight, senior Jill Wurzburg and junior Samantha Berthod secured the doubles point with an 8-4 victory against Cecilia Cardona and Leia Zingone.
Curcic and Brown continued their strong play, both winning in singles action. Curcic, playing at the first flight, won her first set 7-5, before Klinova evened it with a 6-4 second set. Curcic claimed the third, 6-2, for the victory.
Brown won 6-4 in the first set at number two, before her opponent, Diana Stein, retired.
BU's final winner in singles play was Gaskin. Gaskin dropped her first set, 6-2, before bouncing back for a 6-0 second set over Marina Zelenovic at the fifth flight. Zelenovic was forced to retire in the third set, giving Gaskin and the Bison the win.
Bucknell is 8-1 overall. The team is in action next on Thursday, March 27, when it hosts Patriot League rival Lafayette at 3:30 p.m.
