
Bison Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of Spring at Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team's unbeaten streak has come to an end, as the Bison fell at Pittsburgh this afternoon, 5-2. The squad had posted a 7-0 record this spring.
The Panthers put BU in a hole from the start, winning the doubles point with two of three victories. The Orange and Blue tandem of senior Jill Wurzburg and junior Samantha Berthod were Bucknell's doubles winners, picking up an 8-3 victory over Jena Fiore and Emily Hughes at number three.
At number two singles, freshman Veronica Brown nearly came away with the win over Nikki Borza. She lost the first set 6-4, before winning the second 6-1 and coming up short in the super tie-breaker, 10-4. Sophomore Tanya Sichko also forced Becky Emmers to three sets at number four, dropping a 6-0, 0-6, 1-6 match.
Freshman Rheanna Gaskin and Berthod were Bucknell's lone winners in singles play. Gaskin defeated Hayley Hughes 6-4, 6-0 at the fifth flight. Berthod improved to 8-0 in singles action this spring with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Fiore.
Bucknell is 7-1 overall. The Bison face Duquesne on Sunday, March 23, at 10:00 a.m.
