Bucknell Women's Tennis Earns 5-2 Win Over University of Evansville

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Bucknell was on the brink of losing the match several times, but the singles players came through as the Bison women's tennis team wrapped up a successful spring break trip with a 5-2 win over the University of Evansville. The Orange and Blue went undefeated on their trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Things were looking bleak after the doubles matches, where the Purple Aces claimed two of three for the doubles point. The tandem of senior Jill Wurzburg and junior Samantha Berthod were the only bright spot for Bucknell, claiming an 8-2 win at the third flight.
The Bison struggles continued into singles play when sophomore Nadezda Curcic dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Jessica Jetton at the top flight. It was all Bucknell from there, however.
Freshman Veronica Brown won her 16th singles bout of the year, holding on for a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Brooke Hoener at number two. Wurzburg followed with a come-from-behind win over Rachel Tessier at the third flight, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Tanya Sichko had little trouble with Liz Hedde, winning 6-3, 6-4, at flight four, before freshman Rheanna Gaskin pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win against Erica Baas at number five. Berthod rounded out the Bison scoring with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jessica Schwartz at the sixth flight.
Bucknell improves to 6-0 overall. The Orange and Blue are in action next on Sunday, March 16 at Delaware at 10:00 a.m.
