Bison Women's Tennis Wins 6-2 Over Vassar in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Bucknell women's tennis team started its spring break off on the right foot, picking up a 6-2 win over Vassar in Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Thursday, March 13, 2003. The Bison won four of six singles bouts, and two of three doubles matches, for the victory.
Sophomore Nadezda Curcic set the tone for the Orange and Blue, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Becky Weldon at number one. Freshman Veronica Brown continued her solid play at the second flight, coming through with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alexis Neider. Other winners in singles play with senior Jill Wurzburg (6-2, 1-6, 6-4 over Kathryn Robinette) at the fourth flight and junior Samantha Berthod, a 6-1, 6-0 victor over Amber Gaskins at number six.
In doubles play, Curcic and Brown teamed up to down Jessica Shofler and Neider, 8-1, at the first flight. Sophomore Tanya Sichko and freshman Rheanna Gaskin rounded out the Bison scoring with an 8-3 win over Weldon and Sarah Tighe at number two doubles.
Bucknell is 3-0 in the spring. The Bison face Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne later this afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
