Bison Indoor Track and Field Competes at Kent State

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field teams traveled to Kent, Ohio to participate in the Doug Raymond Invitational. The Bison made a number of impressive markings throughout the non-scoring meet.
In the women's competition, Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian reached 9'10" in the pole vault to tie for fourth. Robin Meling (16'10") and Dionne Bonds (16'5") placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the long jump. Bonds (36'3") and Meling (35'8.5") marked second and third in the women's triple jump. Bonds improved her all-time mark by 1.5".
Charity Brady recorded 57.28 in the 400-meter dash for a sixth place finish and now stands fourth on the all-time charts. Jennifer Marsh placed sixth in the mile run, clocking in at 5:08.80. In the 800-meter run, Nicki Piper crossed the line at 2:14.58 for another Bucknell sixth place finish.
The women's 4x400-meter relay A-team placed third with a time of 3:53.94.
On the men's side of competition, Noel Powell refreshed the 200-meter dash school record with a 21.80 finish for a fifth place. He broke the school record on Feb. 1 at the National Invitational in State College, Pa., with a time of 21.94. Powell marked 23'6.25" to place fourth in the long jump.
Ryan Newberger clocked in at 22.00 in the 200-meter dash to receive an 11th place finish and improve his third place all-time mark. Newberger also improved his all-time marks in the 400-meter with a time of 49.30. He now stands second on Bucknell's all-time charts.
Eric Furst placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:11.33, and Lou Palma marked sixth (4:12.45). Bryan Johnston placed first in the 3,000-meter event with a time of 8:27.20. In the men's triple jump, Mike Mellas leaped 44'8" for a fifth place finish.
"It was extemely tough competition that will prepare our team well for the upcoming Patriot League Championships," stated head coach Kevin Donner. "Over 80 percent of our team had season best performances. As a coach, you can't ask for a much better effort from the athletes. I am very pleased."
The Bison will host the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Orange and Blue will then travel to Hamilton, N.Y., for the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 21-23.
