PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bucknell women's water polo team dropped its final game of the Brown Invitational to the 17th-ranked host team, 12-4. Brown is the second ranked team that the Bison have faced in four games this season.
The Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two quarters, and then tacked on four more goals in the third, while limiting Bucknell to just two, to lead 9-3 after three. Brown secured the 12-4 win with a 3-1 advantage in the scoring column in the fourth quarter.
Despite the lack of scoring production, the Bison played one of their best offensive games of the season, firing off 18 shots against the nationally ranked squad. Senior Katie Stahler converted on two of her four attempts for the team-lead in goals. Also scoring were sophomores Katie Hartigan and Cody Keffer.
Defensively, four different players recorded two steals each, while junior Kelly Hofstetter led the way with three ejections drawn.
Senior Lindsay Chesterfield made six saves for the Orange and Blue, now 1-3 overall. The Bison are off for a few weeks before traveling to Salem International for their first set of Southern Division League Games on March 8-9. Bucknell squares off against Princeton in the first game of the day on March 8 at 11:30 a.m.
