Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Hosts the Bison Open

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's indoor track and field teams started the new year by hosting the Bison Open, which started on Friday evening and ended Saturday. Over 25 visiting teams joined Bucknell for the two-day event.
On Friday, Edwina Bourn placed second (8.519) in the 55-meter hurdles, and Jamie Lilien marked third (8.604). This event placed Bourn tied for fourth on the all-time charts. Danielle Todman participated in the pentathlon and finished in third place with a final score of 2,945.
On the men's side of competition on Friday, Richard Alexander placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.84. Kevin Fortkiewicz finished sixth (15:38.32) in the 5000-meter, and Marcus Jones placed seventh (15:38.70). Justin McKnight and Mike Mellas participated in the nightlong pentathlon. Mellas completed the event with 3,282 points for a seventh place finish, and McKnight finished with 2,238 points.
Saturday, Tolulope Fayanjuola finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.370. She improved her personal best by two-hundredths of a second, which also improved her all-time mark at sixth place. Robin Meling marked 10.82 meters in the triple jump for a fourth place finish. Fayanjuola placed third in the 200-meter race (26.43), and Bourn followed behind for a fourth place finish (26.65).
Rachel Tutmaher received the gold in the 3000-meter with a time of 10:38.63 and Jamie Gow followed with a second place finish in 10:46.29. In the field events, Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian placed third in the pole vault (10'6"). Laura Schaffer received the gold in the shot-put with a measurement of 13.10 meters. Fayanjuola received the last gold of the day in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters.
Adam Kaufman received the bronze in the weight throw with a measurement of 14.89 meters. Emory Strother jumped 1.91 meters in the high jump for a fifth place mark. Nick Mousetis performed a personal best in the 3000-meter with a time of 8:47.92.
"As we approach the Patriot League Championships, it really looks like many of our athletes are starting to round into shape," stated head coach Kevin Donner. "We still need some key athletes to step up and perform if we want any chance to win the Patriot League title. Hopefully, next week at Kent, we will see that."
Bucknell will return to action next weekend, Saturday, February 8, when they travel to compete at the Kent State Invitational.
