LEWISBURG, Pa. - Patriot League voters made their predictions for the 2003 women's indoor track and field season and have selected Bucknell third in the conference. The Bison garnered 83 poll points and four first-place votes. Navy and Army tied for first with 85 poll points, but Navy got six first-place votes to Army's five.
Bucknell won the Patriot League Championship last season in women's indoor track and field, picking up 180 points to 120 for Army and 114 for Navy, giving the Bison their seventh indoor track and field Patriot League title. The Bison won in 1992, 1993, 1998-2000, and 2002 before last season.
The indoor track and field Patriot League Championships, both on the men's and the women's side, will take place on Bucknell's campus in Gerhard Fieldhouse on Feb. 21-22. Bucknell opens its season on Saturday at Gerhard in the Bison Opener, as 14 other squads will compete against the Bison. Field events begin at 11 a.m., with running events at 12 p.m.
"We obviously know it's going to be a very close meet [at the league championships] and we're hoping for a higher finish than third place," said Bucknell Head Coach Kevin Donner.
The voting body consisted of Patriot League coaches and sports information directors. Coming up behind Bucknell were American in fourth, Lehigh in fifth, Colgate in sixth, Lafayette in seventh, and Holy Cross in eighth.
