BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Ryan Hom, one of four freshmen in the Bison lineup, shot a career-low 72 on Saturday as Bucknell totaled its second straight 303 to place seventh at the Hofstra Invitational at the Bethpage State Park Red Course.
Bucknell, which wrapped up its 2003 fall season, got another strong effort from senior Abbie Valentine, who shot 73-74 for his fourth top-10 finish in six tournaments this fall. Valentine finished in a four-way tie for seventh place at 147.
Blake Russell helped his Hofstra team to the team title by capturing medallist honors with a two-under 138 (70-68). The Pride shot 590 over 36 holes, followed by Long Island (594), Lafayette (595), Delaware (600) and first-round co-leader Quinnipiac (602). Saint Francis (Pa.) edged the Bison by one stroke for sixth place in the 14-team field.
Hom's two-over 72 was seven strokes better than his first-round score. He finished in a tie for 17th place, the highest finish of his short career. Rookie Charlie Waddell tied for 22nd place, slipping from a first-round 72 to an 80 on Saturday.
Also for Bucknell, Kyle Moran shot 79-79 and finished 39th, while Patrick Yingling carded 81-78 and placed 43rd.
