Bucknell Men's Tennis Competes at Patriot League Individual Championships

West Point, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis team competed today at the Patriot League Flighted Tennis Championships at Army, sending nine singles athletes and four doubles teams. Competition continues tomorrow.
Asher Salam and Nick Denefrio competed for Bucknell in flight one. Salam lost two matches, first to Marshall Wheeler of Colgate, 6-0, 7-5 in the first round, and then to Andrew Mott of Lafayette, 6-4, 7-6 in the consolation's first round. Denefrio lost to Guillame Tarralle of American, 7-6, 6-1, and received a bye in the first consolation round. He will face Davy Lee of Navy tomorrow in the singles consolation semifinal of flight one.
In flight two, Gerald DiChiara won his first match over Jon Swanson of Lehigh, 7-5, 7-5, but lost to Michael Good of Army, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Joe Menezes ended his perfect singles streak at eight, losing first to Ryan Lloyd of Lehigh, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, and then gave a default win to Jake Helms of Colgate.
In flight three, Aaron Saperstein lost to David Collins of Army, 6-2, 7-6, and earned a consolation first round bye. He will play Alfredo Fernandez-Cocha of Lehigh tomorrow. Matt Pikus beat Andrew Shapiro of Lehigh, 6-4, 6-4, but lost to Kyle Roybal of Army, 6-1, 6-4.
Bucknell had three athletes in flight four. Brian Cohen lost to Haley Dodson of Navy, 6-2, 6-4, and beat Evan Volkman of Lehigh, 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 in the first consolation round. He will face Jeremy Fehrs of Lafayette tomorrow. Don Whaley beat Michael Cinefra of Lafayette, 6-1, 6-1, but lost to Brad Nelson of Lehigh, 6-1, 6-2 in round two. Dave Eckelberger lost to Josh Jones of Army, 6-4, 6-2, and earned a default win over Scott Coope of Colgate. He will face Matt Walton of Navy tomorrow.
In the first doubles flight, Menezes and Salam beat Craig Hestowski and Brett Warren of Lafayette, 8-4, but lost in the quarterfinals to Jonah Fliegelman and Ruben Rivero of American, 8-4. Also in flight one, Denefrio and Pikus beat Sebastian Salas and Jarrett Skrobarcek of Army, 8-5, but lost to Evan Ambrose and Jon Bedard of Colgate, 8-6.
In flight two, DiChiara and Whaley beat Michael Cinefra and Brian Schubert of Lafayette, 8-4, but lost to Haley Dodson and Stanley Kahl of Navy, 8-3. Eckelberger and Saperstein received a first-round bye, but lost to Peter Titus and John Zazzu of Lafayette, 8-2.
