Bucknell Women Get First Win in Sojka Pavilion, 72-62, Over Army

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Molly Creamer needed 11 points to become Bucknell's all-time leading scorer, and the co-captain got that in the first half, as the Bison gutted out a 72-62 victory over Army in Patriot League action on Friday, January 24. Creamer finished the game with 32 points to lead all scorers.
Bucknell led from start to finish, but it was not without a fight from the Black Knights. The Bison jumped out to an 8-1 lead just 2:27 into it behind four points from Creamer. After an Army run got the visitors within one, 13-12, BU rattled off 10 straight points, six coming from senior Kate Franks, to take a 23-12 lead halfway through the first stanza. The Cadets got within seven with six to play, but the Orange and Blue closed out the frame on an11-3 tear to carry a 37-22 lead into the locker room.
Creamer's record-breaking bucket came with 5:00 left in the opening half, when a Lindsey Geosits pass led to a layup, giving the host team a 32-19 lead.
The Bison held a double-digit advantage through the first 10 minutes of the second half, leading by as many as 17, 50-33, with 12:05 left. From there, Army mounted an 11-0 run that spanned nearly two minutes to get the team within six, 50-44. A Creamer three-pointer, her 12th straight point for Bucknell, broke the Bison drought and jump-started the offense on the way to a 9-2 spurt for a 59-46 lead.
Army got within eight on three different occasions throughout the final 4:44 of the game, but the Black Knights were forced to foul and Bucknell made 9-of-12 free throws down the stretch to keep Army at bay.
Creamer finished the game with 32 points, giving her a total of 2,134 for her career. Franks, who scored 15 points in the first half, ended the contest with 19 on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. The co-captain also led the squad with eight rebounds.
Katie Macfarlane was Army's leading scorer with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Joining her in double-figures were Lindsay Brent, with 11 points and 10 caroms, and Amy Saal with 13 markers.
Bucknell improves to 7-9 overall and evens it conference record at 2-2. The Bison remain at home to host Lafayette on Sunday, January 26, at 1:00 p.m. Army falls to 9-9 and 1-3 in the Patriot League.
