A Pair of Bucknell Track Stars Named Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's indoor track and field athletes, junior Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) and sophomore Tolulope Fayanjuola (Providence, R.I./Classical) were honored the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Both were awarded the accolades after taking part in the Gulden Relays on Saturday.
Powell posted a first place mark in the long jump and a bronze in the 55-meter dash. The junior, who was the 2002 Patriot League Men's Track Athlete of the Meet during the outdoor season, started the meet with a jump of 7.32 meters in the long jump. In the 55-meter dash, Powell finished a tenth behind the winner and marked a time of 6.58.
Fayanjuola competed in the high jump and received the first place award with a 1.60-meter mark. The sophomore then posted the fourth-best mark on the All-Time chart in the long jump with a 5.59 measurement. Fayanjuola was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet, in honor of coach Art Gulden.
Bucknell will return to action next weekend, Saturday, January 18 when they travel to State College to partake in the Penn State Octagonal.
