
Bucknell's Swimming and Diving Cleans House Against Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Both the Bucknell University men's and women's swimming & diving squads competed against Patriot League opponent Lafayette, Saturday afternoon. The women's team captured a 188-107 victory, while the men's team tallied a 162-136 win over the Leopards.
In the women's events, the Bison captured the gold and silver medal in the first race of the afternoon, the 200-medley relay. Darby Golino, Jamie Flick, Lauren Reed and Meghan Freese placed first with a time of 1:51:30, while Tricia Rado, Lauren Mosler, Ashley Aiken and Lynne Ashenfelter timed in with 1:55.94 for the silver.
Bucknell's Daniela Faas clocked in at 10:37.32 in the 1000 freestyle for a first place finish, and in the 200 freestyle, Jennifer Cancro (1:57.38) and Lectie Altman (1:57.93) grabbed the first two times. Golino set a new pool record with a time of 59.69 in the 100-yard backstroke, while Frees followed behind with a time of 1:00.94.
Flick timed in at 1:06.69 for a gold medal in the 100-breaststroke. Jackie Feinthel placed first for the Bison in the 200-butterfly (2:10.72), and Freese marked first in the 50-freestyle (24.50). Altman continued the points with a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.17.
The women Bison swept the top three times in three events throughout the afternoon. Flick (55.99), Golino (56.12) and Robin Gibson (56.22) grabbed the three medals in the 100-yard freestyle. The Bison made their second sweep in the 500 yard freestyle when Cancro (5:13.91), J. Feinthel (5:20.69) and Rebecca Dolan (5:22.51). And to continue the clean up, Freese (1:00.18), Kristina Poda (1:01.11) and Reed (1:01.26) finished the 100 butterfly atop the Leopards.
To complete the scoring on the women's side, Sarah Petcavage scored 242.40 points in the three-meter diving competition for a first place medal, while receiving the silver medal in the one-meter diving session with 211.35 points. Petcavage marked her personal best in the one-meter event and placed fourth on the All-Time records in the three-meter competition.
On the men's side of the competition, Bucknell captured the gold medal in the 200-yard medley relay. Mark Kretzer, William Schilling, Dean Deluca and Michael Willats completed the race with a time of 1:38.93. Todd Bauer added points with a first place finish in the 200-freestyle (1:46.11). Christopher Feinthel grabbed nine points for the Bison in the 100-backstroke (54.47).
The men Bison also completed a few top three sweeps during the competition. Stephen Schwanhausser (1:00.22), Schilling (1:01.94) and Andrew Steiner (1:02.46) topped the Leopards off in the 100-breaststroke. Schwanhausser (2:09.89), Schilling (2:15.29) and Steiner (2:18.11) grabbed the top three medals in the 200-breaststroke.
Kretzer received his second first place finish in the 200-butterfly after setting a new pool record with a time of 1:55.87. This places Kretzer eight on the All-Time charts. He then went on to capture his third gold medal in the 100-butterfly with a time of 52.67. Kretzer also placed first in the 200 yard IM (1:59.64).
Adam Freeman placed first in both one- and three-meter diving competitions against the Leopards. He received 261.82 points during the one-meter event, and grabbed 285.14 in the three-meter. Freeman broke his personal best in the three-meter by 34.19 points.
The men's and women's teams will travel to Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 18 to face their first away Patriot League Meet of the season. The following week, the Bison will host their last Patriot League dual meet against Lehigh.
