
Bison Swimmers Bring Home A Pair of Victories Over Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Both the Bucknell University men's and women's swimming & diving squads captured victories over the Colgate Raiders. The women finished with a 190-110 score, while the men completed a 173-127 meet.
In the women's events, the Bison grabbed their first set of points with a gold medal in the 200-yard medley relay. Darby Golino, Jamie Flick, Mary Krakowski and Meghan Freese marked 1:50.59 for the Bison. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Daniela Faas (10:39.99), Krisztina Poda (10:52.62), and Andrea Kern (11:21.81) earned the top three medals.
With a time of 1:58.58, Jennifer Cancro received the gold medal in the 200-yard free, while teammate Lectie Altman earned the silver medal with a time of 1:58.74. Golino tracked her second medal of the day in the 100-backstroke with a time of 59.92. Flick grabbed another gold medal in the 100-breaststroke (1:07.48).
Jackie Feinthel (2:11.06), Rebecca Dolan (2:13.66), and Vanessa Scaringi (2:14.75) marked the top three times in the 200-butterfly. Grabbing the gold medal back-to-back, Freese swam the 50-freestyle in 24.40 and the 100-freestyle in 53.31. Altman (2:06.71) placed first in the 200-backstroke, followed by Golino (2:07.41).
Flick earned her third first-place mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.44. In the 500-freestyle, Faas (5:12.60), Cancro (5:17.52), Feinthel (5:19.14) and Leslie Rice (5:26.61) grabbed the top four slots for the Bison. Krakowski captured a first place finish in the 100-butterfly with a time of 58.95.
The Bison men also dominated the waters of Colgate, Saturday afternoon. Mark Kretzer, Stelios Saffos, Peter Garvin and Michael Willats captured a first place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:37.56. Kurt McCoy earned a gold medal in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 9:59.59, while Todd Bauer marked 1:46.96 in the 200-yard freestyle for a gold.
Christopher Feinthel (1:07.48) snatched a first place finish in the 100-backstroke. Saffos (1:00.52) received the silver medal in the 100-breaststroke, while teammate Stephen Schwanhausser (1:00.59) earned the bronze. Kretzer (1:57.65), Ryan Fisher (2:01.32), Gonzolo Diaz (2:01.98) captured the top three slots in the 200-butterfly.
With a time of 22.05, Garvin marked second in the 50-freestyle, while Jake Thieman (22:41) received the bronze. Garvin also received the silver medal in the 100-freestyle with a time of 48.48, and Willats grabbed the bronze (49:02).
Kretzer received his third gold medal in the 200-backstroke when he timed in at 1:59.44. Schwanhausser (2:10.69) and William Schilling (2:11.42) snatched the top two times in the 200-breaststroke. Bauer (4:50.32) and McCoy (4:52.33) also grabbed the top two slots in the 500-freestyle. Matt Hallowell clocked in at 2:01.56 in the 200-IM for a silver accolade.
The men's and women's teams will host the last regular season meet in Kinney Natatorium on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Lehigh. The Bison will then prepare to host the Patriot League Championships, Feb. 20-22.
