Bucknell's Men's Swimming and Diving Victorious Over 2002 PL Champs

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Both the Bucknell University men's and women's swimming & diving squads competed against Patriot League opponent Lehigh, Saturday afternoon. The women's team captured a 215-85 win. The men were victorious over Lehigh, the 2002 Patriot League champions, by a score of 157-143.
Bucknell started the afternoon off with a celebration for the seasons that the 10 seniors contributed to the team. Gonzalo Diaz, Rebecca Dolan, Christopher Feinthel, Darby Golino, Michael Guskey, Geoffrey Konopka, Kurt McCoy, Lauren Mosler, Stelios Saffos and Stephen Schwanhausser competed in their final regular season Patriot League meet on Saturday.
During the first race of the day a Golino, Jamie Flick, Mary Krakowski and Megan Freese earned the first nine points and broke the school record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:47.28. The quad previously stood sixth on the all-time charts.
Daniela Faas recorded a first place mark in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:31.05. Jennifer Cancro received a gold for the Bison in the 200 freestyle clocking in at 1:57.13, while Lectie Altman followed behind to capture a third place mark (1:58.08).
Golino (58.27), Altman (1:00.51) and Tricia Rado (1:02.62) clocked the top three times in the 100-backstroke. Flick received a gold in the 100-breaststroke after finishing with a time of 1:05.97. Placing more points on the board for the Bison were Jackie Feinthel (2nd, 2:09.69), Dolan (3rd, 2:12.80) and Vanessa Scaringi (4th, 2:12.89) in the 200-butterfly.
Freese (24.12), Krakowski (25.18) and Erica Wild (25.20) received the top trio of medals in the 50-yard freestyle. Freese added more top points when she earned the gold in the 100-freestyle with a time of 52.63. Golino marked her third gold medal in the 200-backstroke (2:05.11), and Altman followed for a second place finish with a time of 2:09.67.
Flick also marked her third gold for the Bison in the 200-breaststroke (2:23.75). The Bison grabbed another trio of medals in the 500-freestyle when Faas (1st, 5:08.84), Cancro (2nd, 5:12.19) and Jackie Feinthel (3rd, 5:13.95) clocked in right behind each other.
Krakowski received a gold in the 100-butterfly (58.73). Golino received the last individual gold medal for the Bison in the 200-yard IM (2:09.76). The Bison completed the scoring on the swimming side with a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freese, Flick, Wild and Altman stopped the clock at 3:39.87.
In the diving competition, Sarah Petcavage snatched both the first place finishes on the women's side. She completed the one-meter diving with a score of 213.14, and the three-meter competition with 218.85. Lisa Rockwell placed second for the Bison in the one-meter dive with a score of 192.07.
On the men's side of diving, Adam Freeman easily earned the gold medals in both the one- and three-meter diving events. In the one-meter competition, Freeman received 291.22 points, 94.13 points above second place Dave Edelstein from Lehigh. With 291.22 points, Freeman set a new school record in the one-meter dive. He completed the three-meter dive with 260.92 points. Freeman swept the runner-up by over 52 points. He now stands seventh on the all-time charts in the three-meter dive.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team captured a first place mark. Mark Kretzer, Guskey, Peter Garvin and Michael Willats finished with a time of 1:35.88. McCoy received the first individual medal for the Bison, while swimming the 1000 freestyle in 9:52.11.
Guskey (58.23), Saffos (59.30) and Schwanhausser (59.73) clocked in at the top three slots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Krezter added another gold honor to Bucknell's list after swimming the 200-butterfly in 1:56.32. Garvin (21.52) and Jake Thieman (21:59) marked second and third in the 50-freestyle.
Feinthel received a first place finish in the 200-backstroke (1:57.37). William Schilling clocked in at 2:07.81 in the 200-breaststroke for a first place mark, and Schwanhausser received the bronze with a time of 2:08.16. Schilling now stands third on the Bucknell all-time charts.
Todd Bauer swam the 500-freestyle in 4:45.79 for a first place points, and McCoy marked 4:47.91 for the bronze. Kretzer earned silver in the 100-butterfly (52.84) and Michael Harrigan received the bronze (53.72). In the 200-yard IM, Matt Hallowell placed second with a time of 1:59.57.
The Bison men put the finishing touches to an exciting meet with first and fourth place victories in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Thieman, Harrigan, Willats and Garivn clocked in at 3:10.48 for a first place finish. Brian Cole, Dean DeLuca, Saffos and Guskey placed fourth with a time of 3:16.03.
The men's and women's teams will take off two weeks, before hosting the Patriot League Championships in Kinney Natatorium Feb. 20-22.
