Bucknell Women's Tennis Finishes Successful Weekend at Martha Thorn Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshmen women's tennis players Veronica Brown and Rheanna Gaskin made their collegiate doubles debut a memorable one, playing in the championship match of the Flight A doubles bracket at the 2002 Martha Thorn Invitational, held at West Virginia University on Friday-Sunday, September 6-8.
The duo went 2-0 in doubles play on Saturday, September 8, before falling in the final match to Army's pair of Annie Collier and Megan Noble, 8-3.
Several Bucknell players went undefeated in singles play on Sunday, participating in the back draw matches. Playing at Flight B singles, sophomore Tanya Sichko defeated Lyndsey Nott of Army, 8-6, before winning 8-3 over Angie Schrock of West Liberty.
Also at Flight B was Gaskin, who defeated Loyola's Colleen Ruane, 8-0, and Leia Zingone of Duquesne, 8-2, on the second day.
At Flight C singles, senior Jill Wurzburg was an 8-6 winner over Hayley Hughes of Pittsburgh, before defeating the Panthers' Jena Fiore, 8-4.
In her only singles action of the day, freshman Chelsea Mills defeated her opponent from Duquesne, 8-1, at Flight D.
The Bison are in action next at the Eastern Collegiate Tournament on Friday-Sunday, September 13-15.
