LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Nick Taylor tallied his third goal of the season in the game's 48th minute, and freshman Scott Visnic added an insurance goal just over three minutes later, to lead the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Monmouth on Sunday, September 29. The win was the fourth-straight for the Bison.
After a scoreless first half, Bucknell wasted little time getting on the board in the second, scoring just 3:26 into the frame. Sophomore Dennis DeLuca passed the ball out of traffic to a waiting Jonathan Hemmert on the left side. Hemmert quickly crossed the ball to Taylor, who headed it into the back left corner for the 1-0 lead.
Just 3:24 later, Hemmert assisted on his team-leading eighth goal of the season, crossing a ball from the left side to Visnic in front of the goal. Visnic headed it past Monmouth keeper Arthur Satterwhite for his third score of the year, and a 2-0 cushion for the Orange and Blue.
The Bison threatened the rest of the half, taking 10 shots in the stanza, but could not convert.
Bucknell freshman goalkeeper Adam Edwards recorded his sixth shutout of the year, stopping two of the Hawk's shots. Satterwhite finished the game with six saves for Monmouth.
BU improves to 8-1, marking the best nine game record for the program since the 1974 team went 8-0-1 to open the year. The Bison close out a five game homestand with a contest against Philadelphia University on Tuesday, October 1, at 4:00 p.m. Monmouth falls to 2-5 overall.
