LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team had its first dual meet competition of the fall, picking up a 7-0 victory over visiting St. Joseph's on Saturday, September 28. The Bison won all six singles bouts, in addition to claiming the doubles point with three victories.
In doubles play, the duo of freshmen Veronica Brown and Rheanna Gaskin got things started with an 8-2 victory over Lydia Thomas and Pilar Glodzik at the number one bout. Sophomore's Nadezda Curcic and Ashley Diers followed their lead and defeated Jill Simodejka and Katie Bobish, 8-5, at the second flight. Sophomore Tanya Sichko and freshman Chelsea Mills rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-5 win over Nicole Morrison and Jessica Swanderski at flight three.
In singles action, Curcic picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Thomas at number one. Brown played at the second seed, winning 6-3, 6-3, over Bobish. Playing at third singles, Sichko earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Glodzik, while senior Jill Wurzburg contributed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Morrison at the fourth flight. Gaskin lost only one game to Swanderski at the fifth flight, winning 6-1, 6-0, and junior Samantha Berthod completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kathy Fromuth.
Bucknell is 1-0 in dual meet action and competes next at the Binghamton Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6.
