OLEAN, N.Y. - Tied for the individual lead after 36 holes, Bucknell junior Abbie Valentine lost in a playoff and settled for runner-up honors at St. Bonaventure's Keenan Collegiate Invitational, which wrapped up Monday at Bartlett Country Club. As a team, Bucknell tied for 8th alongside Cornell.
Valentine shot an even-par 70 in Sunday's opening round, then carded a 76 on Monday to finish in a tie atop the leaderboard with St. Bonaventure's Jeff Tracy. Tracy's par on the first playoff hole was good enough to capture medallist honors.
The Bison compiled team scores of 300 and 312. Backing up Valentine were Tom Lane (75-80) and Alex Dolle (76-79), who tied for 39th place with 36-hole totals of 155. Ben Pellicani (79-77) was one stroke back at 156, while Chris Martinez (80-93) finished at 173.
Colgate came from two shots down at the start of the final round to pull out the team title with a score of 597 (292-305). St. Bonaventure finished three strokes back at 600, while first-round leader Loyola (Md.) finished at 602, slumping to 312 in the second round after compiling a 290 over the first 18 holes.
Niagara tied for third at 602, while Drexel (607), Siena (607) and Ottawa (609) also finished ahead of Bucknell. Four strokes back of the Bison at 616 was Robert Morris, followed by St. Francis (Pa.) (617), Duquesne (622), Canisius (623) and Rider (630).
