MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Andre Coleman scored his second touchdown on a 6-yard run in the second overtime, and Ezequiel Arevalo won it with an extra point as St. Mary's beat Bucknell 23-22 on Saturday.
The Gaels (2-1) won for the first time in four meetings with the Bison (0-2), who had a chance to win at the end of the first overtime on Chris Lundberg's 37-yard field goal attempt. Bucknell players jumped in celebration, but it was waved just wide right.
Lundberg, who earlier made three field goals, then missed an extra point after Bucknell took its first lead, 22-16 on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Todd Wenrich to Albert Marquardt to start the second overtime.
Bucknell tied it 16-16 with 36 seconds left in regulation on Blamah Sarnor's 7-yard TD run capping an 80-yard drive. Raphael Darrington kept the drive alive on the previous play with a spectacular one-handed 6-yard catch on fourth down.
Coleman, who had 116 total yards, gave St. Mary's a 16-9 lead on a 10-yard TD run with 3:13 left in the third quarter.
St. Mary's fumbled three times in the second quarter, leading to field goals of 45, 37 and 34 yards by Lundberg. The Bison had just 106 first-half yards and three first downs - none until there was 10:35 left in the second quarter.
St. Mary's quarterback Trevor Johnston, who rushed for more than 100 yards in his first two games, was bottled up all day and finished with minus-23 yards on 20 carries. He also was sacked six times.
The Bison won the previous three meetings between the schools, including a 38-6 victory at Bucknell last season. Bucknell coach Dave Kotulski was defensive coordinator at St. Mary's from 1990 to 1994, and the president of St. Mary's, Brother Craig Franz, is a 1975 Bucknell graduate.
