
Bucknell Women's Track Finishes Second at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Bucknell University women's track & field team finished second out of 14 schools at the Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William & Mary, after the second and final day of competition Saturday afternoon in Zable Stadium. The Bison men's team moved up one position from day one and finished third among 16 teams.
With a team score of 138, the Bison ended up 49 points behind Seton Hall, which won the team title with 138 points. The men's team accumulated 103.5 points, and were edged out by Rhode Island (139) and meet champion Rutgers (146.5) in the team standings.
Sophomore Erin Lee led the Bison women with another individual victory. After claiming first in the hammer throw on Friday, Lee claimed the gold in the discus on Saturday with a winning throw of 145'10", the second-best mark in school history.
Other individuals who fared well on the second day included sophomore Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian, sophomore Laura Schaffer, freshman Elizabeth Pendelton and senior Shannon Maher. Bouzan-Kaloustian finished third in the pole vault (9'6 ?"), while Schaffer was fourth in the discus (129'9", ninth-best ever at BU). Pendelton came in fifth in the discus (126'4"), and Maher soared to a fifth-place finish in the high jump (5'3").
Bucknell women's team also had six relay teams that performed extremely well. Taking second were the 1,600m (3:53.25), 3,200m (9:12.27) and 4x1500m (19:27.26) relays. Both the 400m (49.36) and distance medley (12:26.26, eighth in school history) relays finished fourth.
For Bucknell's men's team, junior Adam Jacob led the way with a fifth-place showing in the pole vault. With a height of 14'9", Jacob set a personal record and tied the sixth-best mark in Bucknell history.
Freshman August Siciliano came in sixth in the discus (142'3"), while freshman Mike Mellas was seventh (42'11 ?) in the triple jump.
In relay competition, the Bison placed first in one event and second in two others. The 4x1500 team placed first out of nine schools in a time of 16:00.14, and the 400m (42.45) and 800m (1:28.29) relays each finished second. Bucknell's distance medley relay was sixth in 10:25.11, while the 3200m relay contingent came in eighth in 7:55.89.
Bucknell will host the Bucknell Open next Saturday in the team's first home meet of the outdoor season.
