
Bison Track Squads Complete Day Two of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Bucknell was back on the track for day two of the Penn Relays Friday at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field, and the Bison turned in another impressive showing.
The men's distance medley relay was the highlight of the day for Bucknell. In an extremely close race, P.J. Ward, Christopher Edwards, Eric Furst and Lou Palma placed second in section two of the College Men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:01.20. The Bison lost to Maine, which finished just over a second ahead of Bucknell in 9:59.91. However, Bucknell edged out Boston College (10:02.47), Pennsylvania (10:03.40) and Dartmouth (10:03.40) as four seconds separated the top five teams. The Bison also defeated Patriot League rival Army, which placed ninth in the section in 10:08.16.
Bucknell had two other relay teams in action on day two. Competing in the College Women's Sprint Medley Championship of America were Kiley MacDonald, Charity Brady, Nicki Piper and Kelly McConnell, who placed fifth among eight teams in their heat in a time of 4:09.44. In addition, Matt Solomon, David Gabriel, Ryan Newberger and Noel Powell came in ninth in their heat of the College Men's 800-meter relay with a 1:30.14 clocking. Texas Christian, the defending NCAA champion in the 400-meter relay, won the event in 1:21.50.
Powell also participated in the College Men's Eastern Long Jump. The sophomore placed 18th among 24 competitors in the event with a mark of 22' ?".
The Bison track teams will compete in three different locations on Saturday. While a handful of the team's top athletes will return to Franklin Field for day three of the Penn Relays, a large portion of the team will head to Millersville University for the Millersville Metrics. Several of Bucknell's throwers will travel to the College of New Jersey for the Lions' Invitational.
