
Bison Tracksters Complete Day Two of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior Stephanie Bango reset her own school record in the 800m run on day two of the 2002 Adidas Raleigh Relays, leading a strong overall effort from the Bucknell University men's and women's track & field teams yesterday on the Paul H. Derr Track.
Bango came in fifth out of 20 runners in the 800 in a time of 2:10.02, eclipsing her former Bucknell record of 2:11.50 set in 2000.
Senior Kelly McConnell also performed well for the Bison. McConnell raced to the second-fastest time in school history in the 1,500m run, as she came in 14th in 4:38.38, just 5.34 seconds off the BU record set by Julie Sweitzer in 1998.
Sophomore Maria Garcia posted the women's team's third-highest overall performance with a 22nd-place showing (149'6") in the hammer throw. Freshman Tolulope Fayanjuola was the only other Bison on the women's team to compete as an individual, and she placed 58th (32'11 ?") in the triple jump.
Junior Bryan Johnston was the top individual finisher for the men's team. Johnston came in 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 9:17.32. Sophomore Nick Mousetis was 21st in the same event in 9:33.24.
Also competing as individuals for the men's team were seniors P.J. Ward and Michael Euell. Both athletes participated in the 1,500m run. Ward finished 24th in 3:57.78, and Euell was 37th in 4:00.37.
In addition, Bucknell had eight relay teams on the track. The men's teams finished 16th (1:27.92) in the 4x200, 17th (7:47.93) in the 4x800, 25th (42.31) in the 4x100 and 44th (3:24.22) in the 4x400. On the women's side, the Bison took 17th (3:52.31) in the 4x400, 17th (9:33.75) in the 4x800, 24th (49.39) in the 4x100 and 25th (1:45.38) in the 4x200.
Bucknell continues its schedule on April 5-6 at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary.
