Bucknell Track Teams Record Impressive Performances at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Four different Bucknell track & field athletes placed first yesterday afternoon at the Ohio State Invitational.
The non-scoring meet consisted of Toledo, Kentucky State, Ohio State, Ohio University, Morehouse College, Eastern Michigan, Purdue, Central State and Bucknell.
Senior Stephanie Bango picked up her second win of the year in the 800m run, placing first among 21 competitors in 2:14.48. She provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the same event last week at the Penn State National Open, and is currently ranked 12th in the nation.
Freshman Jennifer Marsh and senior LaTonya McSwain also broke the top three for Bucknell. Marsh placed second in the 1,000m run in 3:05.71, while McSwain placed third in the 800 in 2:17.96. In addition, the women's 1,600m relay team of Monique Boley, Amy Calvo, Rehana Lanewala and McSwain placed second out of 11 teams in 3:55.87.
For the men's team, senior P.J. Ward junior Greg Costello and sophomore Noel Powell earned one individual victory apiece. Ward was the first to cross the finish line in the 1,000m run (2:30.60), and Costello beat out nine competitors to win the 5,000m run in 14:40.63.
Powell came away with his fourth victory of the season in the long jump, as he leaped 23'11", first among 17 competitors. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the event on Jan. 19, and he is currently ranked 10th in the nation.
Other Bison who placed among the top three in their respective events were junior Lou Palma and junior Eric Furst. Palma took second among 16 competitors in the 3,000m run in 8:39.81, and was the top collegiate finisher. Furst finished third out of 13 harriers in the mile in a time of 4:16.62.
Both teams return home next Saturday for the Bucknell Winter Classic.
