Fifteen Bucknell Track Athletes Named to the All-Patriot League Team

The Patriot League Indoor Track & Field All-League teams are chosen based upon the student athletes' performance at the 2002 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships. The winner and runner-up of each event earn all-league status.
The BU women's team, which won the Patriot League title by over 40 points, had a league-leading nine athletes on the all-league team. Senior Stephanie Bango was named to the all-league team for the fourth year in a row after winning the 800m run, anchoring both the winning 1,600m and 3,200m relays and finishing second in the 400m dash.
Senior LaTonya McSwain also picked up her fourth all-league award by running on the winning 1,600m and 3,200m relays and coming in second in the 800m run. Senior Kelly McConnell, a member of the 3,200m relay team and the silver medalist in the mile, received all-league honors for the third time while junior Nicki Piper was named to the all-league team for the second year in a row. Piper also ran on the victorious 3,200m relay.
Named to the all-league team for the first time were freshman Amy Calvo, senior Chris Crowe, senior Samantha Klotz, freshman Rehana Lanewala and senior Kim Zimbal. Calvo ran on the winning 1,600m relay team and placed second in the 500m dash, and Crowe was the meet runner-up in the 3,000m run. Placing second in the pole vault was Klotz, and Lanewala earned gold medals for winning the 200m dash and the 1,600m relay. Zimbal took runner-up honors in the triple jump.
The Bison men's team placed six of its athletes on the all-league team after finishing in second place at the championships. Junior Eric Furst and senior P.J. Ward helped the Bison finish second in the distance medley relay, and were granted all-team status for the third straight year. Junior Greg Costello, the league champion in the 3,000m run and the runner-up in the 5,000m run, and sophomore Noel Powell, the gold medalist in the long jump, each were awarded all-league status for the second year in a row.
Senior Michael Euell and sophomore Thomas Prochilo also ran on the silver medal winning distance medley relay team, and were awarded as all-league members for the first time in their careers
Bucknell continues its 2001-02 season March 2-3 with the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
