LEWISBURG, Pa. - A full day of activities, culminating with the Bucknell-American women's basketball game, has been scheduled for Tuesday in recognition of the 16th National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

At 6 p.m., young fans are invited to Zeller Lounge inside Gerhard Fieldhouse for an hour of fun activities. The Bison cheerleaders with assist with face painting and poster making, and all children will receive a free poster as well as juice and cookies.
Bucknell's crucial Patriot League women's basketball contest against American will be the backdrop for even more NGWSD events. Special tee shirts will be given away, and all of the Bucknell women's sports teams will be in attendance and available to sign autographs.
At halftime, there will be a special ceremony honoring Bucknell's Patriot League champion women's soccer and women's cross country teams.
All of the day's events, including the basketball game, are free of charge.
The basketball events are sponsored by Geisinger Women's Health Center, KICKS Martial Arts for Women, KICKS Cardio and Lewisburg Subway.
NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Hyman died of a heart attack in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.
Bucknell's women's basketball squad enters the American game with an 8-2 conference record, good for a share of the league lead with Holy Cross. The Eagles are two games back at 6-4.
